Indicaties, werkingsspectrum en resistentie
De toepassing is vooral gericht op penicillinase-producerende gram-positieve coccen waaronder Staphylococcus spp. Dit penicillinaseresistente semisynthetisch penicilline heeft een beperkter werkingsspectrum dan het natuurlijke penicilline. Resistentie werd opgetekend, vormt echter (nog) geen probleem in de diergeneeskunde.

Gekende overgevoeligheid tegen penicillines.

Cefquinome, uit de tweede groep, vertoont een goede activiteit tegen GRAM+ en GRAM- te wijten aan resistentie aan bepaalde beta-lactamases.

Pirlimycine
Pirlimycine behoort tot de groep van de lincosamiden met een activiteit tegen GRAM+, anaëroben en bepaalde mycoplasmen. Deze stof bezit een goede intracellulaire diffusie en een hoge concentratie ter hoogte van de melk na intramammaire toediening.
